Rivermaya at Esplanades Mosaic Music Festival 2006
Ang Banda ng Bayan Set to Wow Singapore Once More
After an exciting debut on the Asian club circuit last October, Rivermaya returns to rock Singapore once more in back-to-back shows on March 17, Friday, at the biggest music festival in Singapore : the Mosaic Music Festival 2006 at Esplanade.
MTV Asia's Favorite Group for the Philippines 2005 kicks off its sets with an acoustic show at the Nokia Music Station, Esplanades Outdoor Theater at 7pm, followed by a high-voltage performance at the adjoining Nokia Powerhouse, at 10 pm. (Admission is free.)
Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is one of the world’s busiest arts centres, officially opened on 12 October 2002. In the past year, Esplanade has welcomed over seven million visitors and hosted over 1,800 performances. Esplanade aims to be a performing arts centre for everyone, and its programmes cater to its diverse audiences, with a line-up that spans all genres to encompass music, dance, theatre and visual arts, with a special focus on Asian culture.
Rivermaya’s music is a magical mix of poetry, heart-thumping rhythms, and pure rock alchemy. The band is composed of Rico Blanco on vocals and guitar, Mike Elgar on guitar, Japs Sergio on bass and Mark Escueta on drums.
Rivermaya was recently selected to create the theme for the Southeast Asian Games 2005, which was hosted in Manila. They are also a record-breaking 3-time winner of the Favorite Group award of MTV Pilipinas, having been most recently named in 2005.
Mosaic Music Festival, back for its second run after its successful launch last year, will thrill audiences with electrifying performances from the very best of jazz and world music. The star-studded line-up of both international and Asian names this year includes the “Kings of Convenience”, (who are credited with spearheading the New Acoustic Movement in the tradition of Simon & Garfunkel and Nick Drake), jazz legends Pat Metheny, Bob James and Maceo Parker, as well as the “Afro-Cuban All-Stars” and acoustic pop artist Jason Mraz, among others.
